It took long enough, but it appears that summer may actually have arrived here in Fredericton! Fredericton has warmer summer temperatures than coastal cities in New Brunswick, such as Moncton and Saint John. One of the things I love about this city is that everyone makes the most of it when the sun finally appears. Young buff men...elderly grandmothers...the minute the sun comes out, we're all instantly shirtless and walking to the beach.
It is essential to wear sunscreen because so much skin will be on display. And that doesn't just go for your skin! Your hair requires protection from the sun, too, if you want it to stay healthy-looking.
Here are a few tips from our stylist to ensure your hair is having as much fun in the sun as you are.
They're so stylish! Plus, they'll keep the sun off your face and hair while you're gardening, hiking, or lounging at the beach.
Take a bath with cold water.
Showering with hot water strips moisture from your skin and hair. Make sure your water is cool while you're in the shower!
It would help if you also used a leave-in conditioner. If you're going hatless, protect your hair by using a leave-in conditioner when you shower. This will help lock in moisture and help keep your hair from getting brittle and dry.
Avoid Hot Styling
Go easy on the hot styling aids. Try to avoid using the blow dryer, curling iron, or straight iron excessively. Those styling tools can dry out your air, especially in the summer. If you must use them, then you must use a leave-in conditioner.
Get your hair cut every 6 to 8 weeks. This isn't a ploy to get you into the salon - your hair actually grows faster in the warmer months! Having it cut more often will help keep your ends from being frizzy.
Drink plenty of fluids, preferably on a patio, while wearing a hat. Staying hydrated helps keep both hair and skin healthy.
Visit your nearest hair salon.
